Tom Bagby Photography Columbia, SC photographer philosophy

At Tom Bagby Photography, these principles are woven into every client's session:

The portrait process and session experience should be fun...not stuffy...because we consider ourselves to be pretty fun people!

Interior design and photography go hand in hand. Specializing in photography as home decor, Tom Bagby customizes portraiture for the space in which it will be displayed. Sometimes, people find it difficult to style a room with portraiture. While every family wants beautiful photographs to display in their home, not every photograph favors the space or the desired decor. With years of experience, Tom and Kristen handle everything from clothing suggestions, to style, to your personality, to the session itself, all with an emphasis on the client's room in which the portraits will be enjoyed. Sometimes a large portrait or group of portraits displayed prominantly on the wall in an area of the living room is best, but sometimes your story is best told with a beautiful handmade album...we specialize in both of these things. Because of the great attention to detail, every portrait is truly a unique piece of art.

Our lives are made up of collections of stories, and all of these stories woven together make up the fabric of who we are. These stories deserve to be documented and preserved. Documented for us to enjoy right now and in the near future, and preserved for future generations as a way for them to know us and carry our memories. I have always loved to tell stories, whether it be recounting childhood memories or simply sharing how I spent last weekend. But, my favorite way to tell a story is through my work. A photograph only has two dimensions, heighth and width...but when a photograph tells a story about who someone is or the relationships between people, they take on feelings and emotions. What makes a photo beautiful is the emotion that it conveys. It has always been my personal challenge to tell the story of who someone is in their portraits rather than just take a picture of what they look like. May I tell your story?
